I don’t believe in you.
There we have it.
But this isn’t about you.
Today is Tuesday, October 22, 2024. It’s two weeks until the presidential election and things are getting weirder by the second. It’s been weird in this country, but it’s gone off the rails, and not just in this country, but in the world at large.
The world is already at war with itself. We have Russia and Ukraine. We have Israel and the Middle East, fighting in Gaza and Lebanon and Iran is lobbing missiles into Israel.
We have a war in this country between “left” and “right,” a resurgence of racism and bigotry, and the emergence of this toxic masculinity, this gross form of manhood that wants to put men back on top of the hierarchy, mostly white men.
I’m a white man and this should be something enticing to me, but it’s gross, like a caricature or cartoon figure of a man, a king in his own castle.
People seem to think the election will solve all these divisions and ill, that once DJT is defeated, somehow, the country can go back to “normal,” and the government will work, and the national conversation will be elevated, and that this hate and prejudice and bigotry will fall by the wayside.
This is a pipe dream.
We are stuck here. We might get rid of DJT (and this is a BIG maybe), but the whole movement he stands for, all of his tens of millions of followers, all of his cronies in government, they aren’t going away. This is no…
