Is anyone else reminded of the 2 minutes of Hate described in 1984? Lots of people like to white-wash Orwell and claim that what he wrote about in his dystopian novel could never happen in the real world, the civilized world, but there are too many parallels to ignore, including the daily dose of hate that people on both sides of the political spectrum engage in ritualistically. This is, to me, a clear and present signal that our culture is failing, and not just American culture, but human cultures, which all seem to be headed down a similar path.
