This is key.
This is crux.
It has to be about something other than you (the writer), something in addition to you -- the "wider story" connecting to some human universal, because connecting is the point, for both writer and reader.
If it's just about you, and not some wider story, then the writing is just a performance, like the author tap-dancing across the mall promenade -- the point being: Look at ME!
For the serious reader and writer, the point is much bigger than "look at me," and this where the "wider story" comes into play.
