Who does make the list?

I'm not being snarky or sarcastic, not in the least, but asking an honest and earnest question because I am interested in what the common qualities of great writing are.

Why do we love the writing we love? Why does that writing move us in a way that other writing doesn't?

You make a fair and truthful point about our culture of sound bites, nothing of depth, and the apotheosis of youth, ignorance, and naivete, our culture celebrating each.

We used to venerate old age because of the prized wisdom that often comes with it, now we celebrate dumb stuff, our idols and roles models a bunch of immature boys and girls.

But, there is good writing beyond all this schlock. Writing that connects. Writing that moves the soul. Writing that makes us feel less lonely, less isolated, less imperially alone in this infinite universe, and that stuff matters. It may not be what Medium's algorithm pushes, or what bounces around social media, but it's out there ruminating around the edges.

And, that writing still matters.
